Charles E. Hughes, Jr., Chief Executive Officer and Director

In addition to serving as a director, Mr. Hughes is our Chief Executive Officer. From January 1998 until its acquisition in July 2004, he served as President, Chief Executive Officer and director of Florida Banks. Prior to his association with Florida Banks, Mr. Hughes served as Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of SouthTrust Bank of Florida, N.A. (“SouthTrust”). At SouthTrust, Mr. Hughes was responsible for negotiating bank acquisitions in Florida and overseeing the entire operations for SouthTrust. Prior to joining SouthTrust, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Baptist Health System, Inc., a hospital management corporation (“Baptist Health”), from 1990 to 1992. Prior to his association with Baptist Health, Mr. Hughes served as Executive Vice President of Florida National Banks of Florida, Inc. and President of Florida National Bank in Jacksonville from 1983 until its merger with First Union National Bank in 1990.

Steve Morrill, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Morrill joined Florida Capital Bank as Chief Financial Officer in May 2005. As CFO, he has responsibility for financial reporting and analysis, strategic and profit planning, asset / liability management, and treasury functions. Mr. Morrill chairs the bank’s Asset Liability Committee.

Mr. Morrill brings over 25 years of financial management experience within the banking and financial services industries to Florida Capital Bank. Previously, Mr. Morrill was with Bombardier Capital as Vice President of Strategic Planning, and held various finance positions with Barnett Bank Inc (now Bank of America) from 1982 through 1998, including; CFO of the Orlando Affiliate, Director of Finance for North Region Banking Group and Director of Finance for Commercial Banking.

Robert H. Higel, Chief Operations Officer


Mr. Higel serves as our Chief Operations Officer. He is responsible for products and services, computer operations, bank operations, compliance, treasury management and the generation of electronic payment income. Prior to joining Florida Capital Bank, Mr. Higel served as Senior Operations Officer of Florida Banks from May 1999 until its acquisition in July 2004. Before his association with Florida Banks, Mr. Higel served as the Chief Financial Officer of SunTrust of Volusia County and was the Chief Financial Officer of BankAmerica/Barnett for several consumer lending units. He began his banking career in 1979 with Atlantic Bank where he worked in branch operations and was an Audit Manager.

Mr. Higel graduated from the University of Florida where he received his bachelors degree in Accounting. Mr. Higel is a certified public accountant and also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration.

Frank A. Parrella , Chief Credit Officer

Mr. Parrella joined Florida Capital Bank in January 2006. As Chief Credit Officer, he is responsible for the overall asset quality and credit risk management of the Bank. Mr. Parrella brings more than 25 years of diverse commercial banking experience to Florida Capital Bank. Prior to joining our company, Mr. Parrella served as a Senior Vice President / Senior Risk Officer for Bank of America. Prior to that, he served in a variety of risk management and commercial group leader roles for Barnett Banks, Inc. (now Bank of America), and for Southeast Bank (now Wachovia). Mr. Parrella received an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Virginia and masters of business administration degree from the University of South Florida.

Peter W. Hayes, Senior Real Estate Risk Officer and Portfolio Manager

Mr. Hayes is our Senior Risk Officer for commercial real estate and is our Senior Portfolio Management Officer.  He is responsible for the quality of our real estate loan portfolio, as well as the monitoring of our loan portfolio. Prior to joining our company, Mr. Hayes served as Senior Vice President-Credit Policy Officer for Mercantile Bank following its acquisition of Florida Banks in July 2004. Previously, he served as Real Estate Credit Officer for Florida Banks from 1999 to 2004.   Prior to joining Florida Banks, Mr. Hayes served in various credit policy and lending roles for Barnett Banks, Inc. and its successors from 1991 to 1999, and for Royal Bank of Canada from 1985 to 1991.  Mr. Hayes received an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Florida, and a Masters degree in Business Administration from Boston University.

Michelle Sammet, Chief Human Resources Officer

Ms. Sammet serves as our Chief Human Resources Officer. She is responsible for strategic and comprehensive human resources solutions which mitigate operational risk and support overall bank operations. Direct activities include recruitment, talent and performance management, succession planning, benefits administration, organizational development/re-design, compensation, reward/recognition and other
on-going related human resources activities. Prior to joining Florida Capital Bank, she was employed with Bank of America as Personnel Executive for the Risk Management Division and also served as Division Business Manager for Bank of America’s Southeast Consumer Division. She joined Bank of America following the acquisition of Barnett Banks, (1991-1998), where she served as Human Resources Director for several divisions within Barnett Bank’s holding company. She began her human resources career with Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Florida. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. Ms. Sammet is an honor’s graduate of Florida Southern College where she received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration.

Robert J. Ventrone, Controller

Mr. Ventrone serves as our Controller. He is responsible for all financial and regulatory reporting matters in addition to the financial administration of the company. Prior to joining Florida Capital Bank, Mr. Ventrone served as Controller of Florida Banks from 2003 until its acquisition in July 2004. Before his association with Florida Banks, Mr. Ventrone served as Controller for EverBank of Florida from 1998 to 2003 where he was responsible for all banking and mortgage operations. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Ventrone worked for Barnett Banks, Inc. (“Barnett Banks”) in various finance and mortgage accounting positions.
